Product Overview
This is a rare and powerful piece of history. A vintage skull believed to be from a Peccary (also known as a Javalina), a pig like mammal native to the Southwestern US. What makes this piece especially compelling are the hand written inscriptions across the skull, locations and nicknames associated with service in Vietnam, along with the dates '68, '69, '70 etched across the top.
Notable inscriptions include:
GO NOI ISLAND - a heavily fortified Viet Cong/NVA stronghold south of Da Nang.
DODGE CITY - a nickname used by US Marines for a dangerous area south of Da Nang.
STONE CANYON - referencing Operation Pipestone Canyon, a major US Marine Corps operation on Go Now Island in 1969.
Both haunting and historically significant, this piece tells a deeply personal wartime story. It would make an incredible statement displayed on a shelf or within a curated collection. Please see photos for more details and condition.
